Mysore style classes are the perfect place to start your Ashtanga yoga journey and to advance in your practice. In our classes each student is taught individually with skilled hands-on-adjustments to facilitate a safe practice. People of all ages and abilities practice together and each student progresses at their own pace. Ashtanga vinyasa yoga is a dynamic and energising practice. New to Ashtanga? Mysore classes are the best way to get started. We recommend to commit for one month of regular practice to get a feel for the practice.

Our classes run every morning from Sunday to Friday, except on Full and New moon days. Please see moon calendar for dates. If you are new to our shala, please register before class.

Next led classes:

Led Intermediate series on Saturday 7th February at 7am. This class is for students with a regular practice up to Pincha Mayurasana.

Led Primary series every Friday at 7am. We practice full primary series but you can stop earlier. Open for all practitioners with a regular Ashtanga practice. Get in touch if you are not sure if this class is right for you.

Our Class Passes

$260 – Monthly Unlimited Pass (1 month unlimited classes) in person and online

$220 – 10 Class Pass (valid for 5 weeks) in person and online

$26 – Casual Class Pass

You can purchase your class pass in our shala. We accept cash, card (1.9% surcharge) and bank transfer.

Class passes explained

Unlimited pass

Our monthly unlimited class pass is the most popular option as it gives you access to all our classes in the shala and online. It starts on the day of your first visit and last for 1 month. There is also an online only unlimited pass which gives you access to all our online classes for 1 month.

10-class pass

Our 10 class pass will give you access to our shala and online classes and is valid for 5 weeks.

Casual class

We also offer casual class passes, $26 for a practice in our shala, $19 if you are joining us online.

We are a community minded shala and don’t have any contracts or memberships. We operate on the principles of trust and goodwill and do our best to offer our services in a fair and sustainable way. Therefore we don’t hold or pause any class passes. You can speak to us if you are unsure which pass is the best option for you, All class passes are available online and in the shala. We accept cash, card and bank transfer.

Classes explained

MYSORE PRACTICE

Traditionally yoga is taught from teacher to student with individual instructions and physical adjustments. Mysore style practice is exactly that.
It is a group class where each student practices at their own pace with individual guidance from the teacher. Step-by-step you learn a set sequence of postures and repeat the postures each time you practice. Over time more postures will be added to your practice. Class times vary according to your level of experience. This is the most accessible and best way to learn and practice Ashtanga yoga and available to all levels of practitioner.

LED CLASS Primary series / Intermediate series

A class for students with a regular Ashtanga yoga practice. Its an opportunity to deepen your practice with emphasis on the correct vinyasa count and drishti in each asana. The Intermediate class is for people who practice at least up to Pincha Mayurasana.

ASHTANGA ONLINE CLASS

If you can’t make it to our regular classes in the shala you can join us online via zoom. Students new to Ashtanga need to email us before class: practice@ashyoga.com.au

ZAZEN/ MEDITATION

If you are looking for greater focus, concentration and calmness than sit with us. Give your mind a break and join our drop-in meditation classes. No experience required, just bring a cushion. We sit for 30 minutes and we ask to leave quietly if you need to go earlier.

Beginners - FAQ's

Can I come if I have never done Ashtanga yoga before?

Yes, absolutely. In a Mysore class each student is taught individually, so the classes are suitable for all levels and beginners are always very welcome.

How does an Ashtanga Yoga Mysore Style class work?

The Mysore class is designed to ‘drop in’. This means you can turn up any time during the class. Each student is guided individually by the teacher to learn the sequence and system at a suitable pace.

How long is a Mysore class?

For a beginner the class takes approx. 45-60 min. With more experience the practice might take 60-90 minutes.

How many days per week should I practice?

According to the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method it is intended that you practice 6 days per week with the exception of the full and new moon days, which are additional rest days. This way of practicing requires a sustainable approach that is very different from practicing only a few times per week. We teach and practice according to this method and therefore recommend a daily practice. Of course, we understand that 6 days a week is not suitable for everyone and welcome every practitioner to our community.

Women should take additional rest during the first 2-3 days of their period.
