This is a reminder that we are all in this together.
Staying at home, isolated from our social world is challenging. I believe that this is the time to practice, not just on the mat but to apply yamas and niyamas, the fundamental principals of our yoga practice. As we stay home, its an opportunity to go inwards, read books, learn something new, create art, meditate, breathe.
Let’s stay connected as a collective, knowing that we can use this time as an opportunity for growth, nurturing and reflection.
After working 7 weeks behind the scenes at Cirque du Soleil I have fallen in love with the show. The demands of being on stage and performing always at your best are incredible and I was happy to learn that some of the crew and performers practice yoga to balance the intensity of circus life.
Yoga in its holistic approach goes beyond just physical postures and was initially performed as a practice of the mind to reach a state of higher awareness.
In the ancient texts the goal of yoga is described as ‘chitta vritti nirodah’ which means “to still the fluctuation of the mind”.
